Tourist information

Sveti Stefan is a little island and tourist resort in Montenegro, roughly six kilometres to the south of Budva. It used to be a tidal island, although is now permanently linked to the mainland by a slim isthmus. Even though the island is sealed to non-resort visitors, the beaches north and south of the island are open to the public with payment.

Sveti Stefan, in the 1970's, was favourite among famous people, and among its visitors were Monica Vitti, Boris Spassky, Marilyn Monroe, Bobby Fischer, Ingemar Stenmark, Claudia Schiffer, Kirk Douglas and Jonathan Miller. Sveti Stefan remained the most prestigious tourist place on the Montenegro's coastline till the 1990's, when it fell into decline in the course of the breakup of the previous Yugoslav federation.

This little traveler resort which has succeeded to retain much of its medieval character is frequented by the rich and celebs and considered by many to be the most eye-catching destination on the Adriatic coastline. Comprising of the small hamlets of Milocer, Przno and the tiny peninsula of Sveti Stefan, which is named after Saint Stephen, the patron Saint of Montenegro. Sveti Stefan is an uncommon and distinctive location not only in Montenegro but in the entire Mediterranean. It stands on the cliff of a stony islet with roofs red like rubies.
